EMG-S Strat Pickup The EMG-S pickup features the same construction as the EMG-SA but replaces the Alnico magnet with ceramic one. It has the equivalent output of the EMG-SA but the EMG-S features a brighter tone quality accentuated in the upper middle to high frequency response. EMG-SA Strat Pickup The EMG-SA pickup combines the attributes of the early Strat* sound but with an added midrange response and higher output, giving it "bell-like" ringing harmonics and increased sustain. One single Alnico bar magnet delivers classic overdrive with a smooth midrange distortion, while still retaining the familiar high-end of a single-coil pickup. EMG-SAV Strat Pickup EMG developed the EMG-SAV for Steve's "Luke" Guitar made by Ernie Ball. The windings were increased for a meatier tone, and EMG hid away the pole pieces for a more uniform look to the instrument, they also used the original preamp from the SA pickup with flat Alnico 5 pole pieces hidden under the cover cap. EMG-SLV Strat Pickup For the EMG-SLV, EMG used the original preamp from the SA pickup with flat Alnico 5 pole pieces hidden under the cover cap. EMG-SV Strat Pickup During the "Retro" trend in the early 90's, EMG decided to develop their first "vintage" style pickup, the EMG-SV. Using the same original string interface (staggered Alnico 5 pole pieces), the SV is tone modeled after the 1959 Strat with that familiar peaky response at around 3000 Hz giving it that "plucky" percussive attack. Because it's truly a marriage of vintage design and state of the art electronics, it has a much smoother, less scratchy distortion sound, and more output.
